Our Safety Security and Safety Maintenance service assists with:

Security and Safety Maintenance

  • Regular Lock and Access Control System Checks: Ensure that all doors, windows, and gates are secure. This includes routine maintenance of locks, deadbolts, and smart lock systems, as well as access control mechanisms like keypads, card readers, or biometric systems.

  • Alarm and Panic Button System Servicing: Conduct regular checks on the alarm systems, panic buttons, and emergency alert devices to make sure they are operational. This includes battery checks, testing connections to law enforcement or security services, and ensuring that staff are aware of emergency procedures.

  • Security Camera Maintenance: Inspect and clean security cameras to ensure they are functional and positioned correctly. This includes checking camera feeds, recording systems, and storage devices to ensure proper documentation of any incidents.

  • Perimeter Security Checks: Regularly assess fencing, gates, and other boundary protections for damage or vulnerabilities. Replace or repair fencing and ensure that any access points are secure.

  • Lighting and Motion Sensor Upkeep: Maintain outdoor lighting and motion-sensitive lights, which are critical for deterring intruders. Replace bulbs and repair wiring as needed to ensure that dark areas of the property are well-illuminated at night.

Building and Structural Maintenance

  • Door and Window Repairs: Replace or repair broken or damaged doors and windows, ensuring they are secure and energy-efficient. Install additional reinforcement, such as security film on windows or heavier doors where necessary.

Grounds and Exterior Maintenance

  • Landscaping and Groundskeeping: Provide regular lawn care, tree trimming, and gardening services to maintain the exterior appearance and safety of the property. Overgrown bushes or trees can create hiding spots for intruders, so it’s important to keep the grounds clear.

  • Snow and Ice Removal (if applicable): In colder climates, offer services to remove snow and ice from pathways, entrances, and parking areas to prevent accidents and ensure that emergency exits are always accessible.

  • Waste Management and Recycling: Ensure proper disposal of waste, recyclables, and hazardous materials. Keep dumpsters secure and manage pest control around waste areas.

  • Fence and Gate Repairs: Perform regular inspections of perimeter fences and gates. Repair or replace damaged sections to maintain security and privacy for the refuge.

Emergency Repairs and Rapid Response

  • 24/7 Emergency Maintenance Services: Offer a hotline or on-call service for emergency repairs, such as plumbing leaks, electrical outages, or security breaches. This is especially important for safe houses and shelters, where quick responses are necessary to maintain a safe environment.

  • Emergency Shelter Set-up: In case of an unexpected influx of residents or urgent needs, help to set up temporary living spaces within the refuge. This could involve arranging temporary partitions, adding extra bedding, or providing quick fixes to accommodate more people.

Specialised Security Upgrades

  • Security Doors and Reinforcement: Maintain security doors with reinforced frames, high-grade locks, and additional protection measures such as peepholes or video doorbells.

  • Window Security Film or Bars: Maintain shatterproof security film on windows or install window bars to prevent break-ins while maintaining privacy.

  • Safe Room Maintenance: If the refuge has designated safe rooms, maintain and regularly inspect these areas to ensure that they remain functional. This includes checking communication devices, locks, and emergency supplies stored in the rooms.

Health and Safety Compliance

  • Compliance with Building and Safety Codes: Ensure that all maintenance work complies with local building codes and safety regulations. This includes ensuring accessibility features like ramps, handrails, and emergency exit routes are in good condition.

  • Regular Safety Audits: Conduct periodic safety audits of the property, identifying potential hazards (e.g., tripping hazards, loose railings, or fire hazards). Work with shelter staff to address these concerns promptly.

  • Pest Control: Regularly inspect and treat the property for pests such as rodents, insects, or bedbugs, which can cause health concerns for residents.

Technology and Connectivity

  • Wi-Fi and Internet Maintenance: Ensure reliable internet and phone line services, which are critical for residents to communicate with legal aid, family, or support services. Address any connectivity issues promptly.

  • Smart Home Security: Install and maintain smart home security features, such as remote-controlled door locks, smart thermostats, or connected security systems, that allow staff to monitor and manage safety remotely.

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency

  • Energy Efficiency Upgrades: Provide upgrades or maintenance to make the property more energy-efficient, which can help reduce operating costs for the shelter. This could include installing energy-efficient lighting, insulating windows and doors, or maintaining HVAC systems for optimal energy use.

  • Sustainable Practices: Implement eco-friendly maintenance solutions, such as using green cleaning supplies, encouraging recycling, and installing water-saving devices.

Resident Safety and Comfort

  • Routine Maintenance Schedule: Create and maintain a regular schedule for property upkeep, including preventative maintenance to avoid unexpected breakdowns of critical systems.

  • Resident Feedback: Establish a system for collecting feedback from residents on any maintenance issues that need attention, ensuring that they feel safe and supported in their living environment.
